Project 2

Maya Walk Cycle
After rigging their figure students will rig their character and create a 30 second walk cycle

A walk cycle has four stages: Contact, Recoil, Passing, and High Point

  • Contact: Front foot makes contact with the ground. The most important section to get correct is the contact, you should start your walk cycle with this post.
  • Recoil is when the right foot is forward the right arm is back and vice versa. Mass of the body falls on that foot and the leg bends and Recoils, cushioning the fall. Recoil is the pose where it impacts the ground and is the lowest point in the cycle. The arms are at the furthest point from the body and the front foot is fully in contact with the ground, the rear foot has lifted up.
  • Passing point is the in between. The momentum to propel our mass forward again
One leg supports the body weight while the other passes forward for the next step.
  • High point is the highest in the walk cycle, the body is stretched as the leading leg is forward and the heel of the other foot is beginning to leave the floor.

Create a 30 second Walk Cycle. (900 frames minimum)
