Planar Sculpture
Assignment An exploration of 3D space and sculptural elements in Maya. Students will create a sculpture relying on rhythm/repetition..
Definitions:

Plane:  a flat or level surface –– planar materials include foam core, cardboard, sheet metal, plastic sheets, and plywood.

Rhythm/ Repetition:  rhythm is the result of repetition; three rhythmic devices include:
            1) the duplication of the same form
            2) two forms used alternately; and
            3)  the sequential change of a form (large to small, for example.)

Parameters
  • Two types (no more, no less) of angular forms repeated and combined to create a composite sculptural form.
  • One type of organic form (smooth edged and irregular) repeated and combined to create a composite sculptural form.
  • No Open Faces. The object should mot have any holes in the mesh or NURB.
Limitations:

You may not use any other models or pieces of models. You must start from scratch.

Scale/
Face count
Your model should have less than 10,000 faces (keep it really simple)
You may use a subdiv proxy to smooth your organic forms but the basic mesh should be less than 100 faces.
Textures We will be covering lighting. All models must be lit..
Printout
  • Your will create three cameras and produce three images (one image from each camera).
  • Images should be output as a PSD, at least 6000 pixels wide by 4800 pixels tall.
  • Using the Epson printers in the lab, your three images should be printed out as a 20 inch wide by 16 inch tall image (22inches by 17 inches paper dimensions.)
