Big Print/Moral Problems
Theme: Artists base their work on any number of different sources. Sometimes it's a lifelong interest or a recent personal event that provides inspiration. Other times an interest in a subject comes about through a news report or an article read. All good artists do some sort of research in the course of creating a series of artworks. In this assignment we will be looking at a number of moral problems and we will be creating artworks that are inspired by that research.
Scope of assignment: This assignment will consist of three parts:
  1. Research a contemporary moral problem of your choice (You can choose a topic from the list below. You must read at least two essays or articles related to your topic.
  2. Create at least two original, digitally manipulated, images dealing with your topic. This is not an illustration, it is an expression of your feelings, knowledge and artistic interpretation of the topic. Thes images will be printed out on the Roland printer. BIG. Think Scale.
  3. Create a series of at least 4 web pages that puts your pieces in their appropriate context. These pages must include an artist statement, images and links to outside sites dealing with your issue.
Big Print:
Theme:
We are accustomed to objects that are "life-sized." When an artist presents a familiar form in an unfamiliar size, our interest is often heightened, for the experience is immediately something out of the ordinary. Scale can completely change the mood, meaning, and context of an image.
