Building a character
Theme: Create an animated character. You must choose a living, contemporary artist for your character.
Background:

When designing characters for animation you need to create a personality and understand how they will behave in any situations. The more things you know about the character the more convincing it will be for the audience and the greater the suspension of disbelief they’ll have with the character and the story.

For this project you will design a character of your own creation from scratch based on your research and interests.

Consider the following:

  • What does his or her appearance tell you about their personalities?
  • What do their gestures and movements tell us about their personalities and motives in the story?
  • Are they like real-life people? If not, how are they different?
  • How is this character's biography revealed through their clothing, their facial features, and other accessories.
Characterization

Direct and Indirect Ways in which a character can be revealed:

  • By physical characteristics.
  • By what s/he says.
  • By how s/he says it.
  • By what s/he does.
  • By what others say about him or her.
  • By his or her environment.
  • By her reaction to others.
  • By his reaction to himself.
